Corey O’Connell, MDiv, MA, LPC, LMHC

Corey has specialized in working with PTSD and Complex Trauma since 2017.  He enjoys working with people of all ages who have been involved in abusive relationships as a child or an adult. He has also shown the ability to work with specialized populations such as: veterans, first responders, others who have experienced trauma in the workplace, those who work in a church setting, and workers at Christian non-profit organizations. .  Corey focuses on helping  people learn strategies that  allow them to heal and  experience growth from their traumatic experiences.  

Corey  also works well with couples using a trauma informed perspective along with his training in the Gottman method. 

Above all, Corey’s Christian faith informs his view of individual and relational health. He uses this understanding of health to help people integrate their spirituality as part of the healing process.  He views counseling as a collaborative effort in helping patients to increase self awareness, recognize strengths, and understand conflicts.  Talking about how the body’s neurological system works, discussing personal values, and working through relationship issues are a few of the activities that may be used during your time in counseling.

Before becoming a counselor Corey obtained his undergraduate degree in Biology, emphasizing in human anatomy and physiology, from California State University Fresno which would come in helpful later in his career.  After completing his undergraduate work, he studied theology at Western seminary in Los Gatos CA, completing his M. Div., and spent 10 years serving in a number of ministries.  He then went on to pursue his M. A. in Counseling from Western Seminary, Portland, Oregon.  After graduation Corey interned with a psychologist to receive additional training in Complex Trauma and the integration of personality as part of the therapeutic process.  He has also earned certifications in the following specializations: PTSD, Complex Trauma, Spirituality and Therapy, and PTSD in veterans.  When working with couples Corey follows the Gottman Method and has completed levels 1 and 2 of the Gottman Method training.    

Outside of the office Corey is a husband to a wonderful wife and father of 4 children.  He enjoys outdoor activities such as fishing or kayaking.
